Full Membership

Full membership of IFCAPP requires that applicants have completed a four year continuous training comprised of:

The 2 year MSc. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at Trinity College Dublin followed by the 2 year programme of Clinical Training provided by the Irish Institute for Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IICAPP). This training complies with the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) and the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP) standards.

Others who have completed an equivalent training in Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, which complies with the EAP standards are also eligible to apply for membership.

All full members are required to be members of EAP.

Special Interest / Allied Professional Membership

Special Interest/Allied membership will be open to applicants who are therapists or professionals in a relevant field and are currently working therapeutically with children and adolescents. Registration with a professional body will be required. It is envisaged that allied professional status will be open to those wishing to bring  psychoanalytic thinking to their work. Special Interest/Allied Professionals may attend conferences and members meetings. They may not, however, attend the AGM.

Retired Membership

Application for Retired membership is open to Child & Adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapists who no longer work or intend to work in clinical practice with clients.

Retired members who are providing or wish to provide supervision to pracitising psychotherapists must check with their professional insurance provider regarding the need for insurance and to comply with the provider’s requirements.

Honorary Membership

An individual deemed to have contributed in a most significant way to the development, practice and furtherance of Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy may be granted Honorary Membership.

Student Membership

Student membership is open to current students of the Trinity College Dublin MSc. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and students of the postgraduate Clinical Diploma at the Irish Institute of Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IICAPP). Student membership is also open to students of other courses in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy which fulfil the EAP criteria.

Renewal of Membership

IFCAPP’s membership subscription falls due on 31st January each year.

Members who allow their membership to lapse will automatically be removed from the membership register of IFCAPP and the ICP. They will be required to complete an application form to be reconsidered for membership. A re-joining fee of €100, in addition to the usual annual subscription, will apply.

Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEP)

All Full and Student members have access to PEP, allowing them online access to a very wide range of psychoanalytic publications. The cost for this is included in the membership fee.

Professional Insurance

All members who are currently taking, or intend to take, clients must hold current professional insurance and will be asked to produce evidence of this at renewal each year. Retired members who provide supervision must check with their professional insurance provider.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Full members must demonstrate fulfilment of CPD in line with the requirements of the ICP.

Code of Ethics

All members must abide by IFCAPP’s Code of Ethics.
