Seminar 31st March: Challenges faced when working psychoanalytically with children and families
The ACP (Association of child psychotherapists in the UK) has published a Review of the evidence of the effectiveness of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Marigemma Rocco will present examples of 3 different cases involving simple trauma, complex trauma and parent-child work.
We know that psychoanalytic psychotherapy can bring about change. This seminar will provide the opportunity to explore how change happens in different clinical settings using a psychoanalytic psychotherapy frame. Time will be given to discussing the issues raised with specific regard to the situation in Ireland. Therapists are invited to think about their own clinical work and bring examples, if they wish, for discussion.

Anne Alvarez, MACP PhD
The IFPP is delighted to welcome Anne Alvarez to present a seminar on working with clients from a neurodiverse background.
The paper begins with a mention of recent very helpful psychoanalytic publications on the subject of Aspergers syndrome, then discusses the question of accurate description and the even more difficult one of possible aetiology. It goes on to discuss the issue of possible overlap with personality disorder: Work with a difficult and cold but also eventually loving adolescent girl is described. It shows how an analyst found a way of cracking the code with a confused and puzzling neurodiverse young man
